My family and I drove through a portion of the lands belonging to the Navajo Nation on our way back from visiting family in California. We were amazed at how many miles it stretched. We found out later it covers more than 17 million square miles in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. As the largest indigenous people group in the United States, there are over 300,000 Navajo according to the 2010 census. About half of them live in the Navajo Nation. The Navajo traditionally follow a religion that is part animism and shamanism. Some are Christians, but only 3% are considered evangelical.
At a closed gas station, we met a lady who said everything was under lockdown because of COVID-19. The pandemic has disproportionately affected the Navajo. Before we left, we shared a card with the lady. I was able to tell her about the good resources available in English and in Navajo that she could read, listen, and watch.
I think you would also enjoy the Native New Day Bible studies and videos prepared especially for Native Americans as well as the Native New Health programming. Becoming familiar with these resources and others available on will help you be prepared to share.
